Between cultural relativism and liberal ethnocentrism: What does Saudi Arabia tell us about cultural variation in moral identity and prejudice?

Cultural conceptions of morality are grounded in diverse moral foundations, but identity research often assumes that individualizing concerns the universal basis for morality. Moral scales only foundations risk liberal ethnocentrism, to extent binding emphasized collectivist cultures overlooked. Three hundred and ninety-five Saudi Arabian UK participants completed prejudice measures, which either narrowly measured or broadly both foundations. The broader measure had greater power predict scores countries, particularly Arabia. Generally, identities predicted less prejudice, while higher countries. Individualizing measures may assess ethnocentric concepts, recognizing considerations taint category with self-concepts associated greater—not less—ethnocentrism.
